"I'LL LEAVE LA
(the Dub Version)"

Unearthed Randy Newman Mashup

Re-Edited Music Video from 1983 Rediscovered

-----------------------------------------------------------

More than twenty years before Katrina, in March of 1983, while Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited with President and Nancy Reagan at their Santa Barbara ranch, a major storm hit California, including a tornado in Los Angeles, causing severe flooding.

Just months before, Randy Newman's semi-tongue-in-cheek anthem, "I Love LA", hit the charts.  In a perfect storm moment, this video mash-up (dubbed "I'll Leave LA, the Dub Version") made the rounds in the offices of MTV.  The bootlegged tape caught the eye of Tim Newman, Randy's cousin who directed the official music video.  Both cousins expressed their love of the re-edited version, but banned it from the airwaves.  This is the first time it has been seen in public anywhere.
